Loggerhead shrike

John McKee Photography: Photos taken on May 20, 2023 outside of Erieau. The Eastern Loggerhead shrike is one of Canada’s most endangered songbirds. They are down to 25 breeding pairs in Ontario, the plains of Carden and Napanee. This bird was way out of range and should not have been in in Chatham-Kent. The Loggerhead is sometimes call a butcher bird as it is known for using a specific maneuver to break the necks of small rodents.
