As I (slowly) age it is getting harder to get down on my knees to garden. I wanted to use raised planter boxes but many you see for sale are much smaller than I wanted. I wanted a large box that would hold a lot of soil and moisture.

I constructed the frame legs with 3″ x 3″ angle. The bottom stretchers are made of 2″ x 2″ angle and top is 1″ x 1″ inverted to cover the top edge of the wood sides.
For the sides and bottoms I used pine. The bottom slats are wrapped with vapor barrier and stapled from underneath. I did leave the ends uncovered for any moisture to be able to escape. When the sides were installed vapor barrier was put around the full inside of the box. It was important to have the bottom individually wrapped so excess water could drain. On top of the bottom slats garden fabric is used to keep the soil in.
Having the raised planters kept the rabbits and slugs out of the garden. Very happy the way these turned out.
